We were thrilled to receive the AMI Supreme Award for best overall production! ACTT state that “this is awarded for a production where all the elements worked together to create a memorable piece of theatre. It is a production where strong individual performances and well executed technical designs brought the words of the playwright and vision of the director to life. The best production is a well crafted piece of theatre and an excellent night out for audiences. It is a production that will leave vivid memories of characters, scenes and moments in the minds of those audience members lucky enough to see it, for weeks, months and perhaps years to come.”
No awards were received for The Day they Kidnapped the Pope but we were still very pleased with the recognition given through six award nominations for this production.
2010 Production
We are delighted to announce that we have again secured the talent of Richard Purro to direct our 2010 production which will be the classic play by JB Priestley, An Inspector Calls. The season will be for 10 days in September. A cast of four men and three women will be required and auditions for this production will be held in July at the Theatre Pitt. Phone Marion Hines (376 6583) if you would like more information.
MTNZ Merit Award for Bruce Weston
Further good news to share with you; at the Musical Theatre NZ Annual Conference in Auckland last week, Bruce Weston received a Merit Award for services to musical theatre. This award recognizes people who have given outstanding service to theatre for over 20 years. Pilgrim was pleased to nominate our former Chairman for this prestigious award and of course we are delighted that the MTNZ judges honoured Bruce in this way.
Farewell Peter and Jacqui
Over quite a number of years we have been well served on the committee by Peter Carr. Peter has designed sets for us, built scenery, and managed sound and lighting. In more recent years we have also enjoyed the contribution to set building, painting and lighting made by Peter’s partner, Jacqui Rice. Peter and Jacqui moved to Sydney in February and will be sorely missed, both from the committee and our production team. Best wishes to both of you and thanks for all you have contributed in many productions.
Lighting and sound enthusiast required
With the departure of Peter and Jacqui we are needing someone to operate our lights and sound during productions so if you know of anyone wanting a new hobby (no experience required) please let them know about us. We can arrange for training to be provided. Contact Mary Boyd Ph 480 5028.
2010 committee
Following the departure of Bruce Weston and Peter Carr from the committee, we have made the following new appointments. Mary Boyd has been appointed Deputy Chairman and David Hines has been welcomed as a new committee member. Welcome David!

Finally, we hope this newsletter finds you well and share with you this prayer:
The Gift
God grant us the gift of dreaming:
The dream of a world enjoying its extraordinary colour and beauty –
not viewing life through tunnel-visioned, grey-tinted spectacles.
The dream of breadth and variety in glorious harmony –
not definition through division, prejudice and ignorance.
The dream of acceptance and inclusion –
not judgment and exclusion.
The dream of your love and humour –
not our idolatry and self-righteousness.
The dream of ‘we might’ –
not ‘we cannot’.
God give us the vision and imagination to dream
and enable us to make the dream a reality.
Amen.
