Newsletter June 2011
In the absence of Marion Hines, our esteemed Chairperson, I have been allocated the job of writing Pilgrim's Newsletter.
I looked through my book of quotations to find something appropriate as an opening statement and came across the following words. I do not know the author, so if you are the writer of these great thoughts – thank you very much for sharing your perceptive thoughts about theatre with us.
"Plays are made in the space of a time, yet they can be not a minute older now than when they were first performed. The characters no more wrinkled now than then. No more tearful nor joyous save in a particular actor's portrayal. A drama exists only in the moment of performance. The truths and ideas have been with us from before time was measured. We turn the hourglass over each time we experience the meteor ride of theatre and for a measured moment in time we fly the heavens in search of that elusive vapour of truth."

TOURING PLAY TO THE CHURCHES
As indicated in previous newsletters, we will be taking Supernova Summit on tour again this year to churches on every Sunday in August. The play will be directed by Tara Solomon.
Supernova Summit is a fantasy based on Psalm 8, where King David expresses his love of the stars. Play-writer David Hines wondered what would happen if King David took a trip to our time, and saw the stars with a modern astronomer, through the Hubble Space telescope. What discussions they would have! And how would you get King David to the 21st century in the first place?
The season for our Touring Play, 'Supernova Summit' will be in August. The churches to be visited are East Coast Bays Methodist (7th); Life Church Rockfield Road (14th); St. Aidans Presbyterian, Northcote (21st) and the church on 28th to be confirmed.
We are hoping to have another touring play in October. This is being written by our 'in-house' writer, David Hines.
Thornton Wilder said "Theatre is supremely fitted to say: "Behold! These things are." Yet most dramatists employ it to say: "This moral truth can be learned from beholding this action."
