Pilgrim Productions, an award winning theatre group. Award winning? Yes. We win awards. NAPTA logo

On Saturday the 18th of February at the Bruce Mason Centre, Pilgrim Productions won 4 theatre awards at the Annual NAPTA (Northern Area Performance Theatre Awards) gala evening. Nominated in 6 areas, Best Play, Best Director, Best Set, Best props, Best Actress in a play (2 nominations for this award) and Best Actor in a play.

Chairman Bruce WestonHoping to be the one’s announced were the committee, Barry Spring, Peter Carr, Mary Boyd & Shirley Spring, Lynn Webster & Anne Sheffield and Bruce Weston as they enjoyed a meal and cabaret show during the glamorous evening of gowns and black ties. A front row table ensured the winners did not have walk far to collect their trophies. A delighted Pilgrim contingent walked away with Best Play, Best Props, Best Actress and Best Actor. It was Anne Sheffield who won the Best Actress while Mary and Shirley were thrilled to win the Props award. Bruce Weston never thought he would win anything and the committee were elated to be awarded the Best Play.

Thanks must go to Barry Spring whose idea it was to stage ‘The Whales Of August’, bringing the play to life with his masterly direction and skilled touch. Now that the benchmark has been set, we aim to reach even higher, not so much for any awards, but that we continue to offer quality theatre to Auckland audiences.
