October 2005 Newsletter

THE SEARCH continues. Like Richard Burton, the explorer who found the source of the Nile, we continue with our relentless search for a suitable show. A musical is what we are aiming for but those that fit our criteria or are affordable are almost as mythical as the Nile headwaters were to Burton. There are several possibilities we still need to explore. Likely contenders so far have proved to be either going in the wrong direction or far too contentious. We press forward. (To be continued)

STOP PRESS! Two more shows have been recommended to us and we are currently evaluating them. Our philosophy remains: You don’t find the truth of life in morbidity – only in hope

What’s been happening?

LAST MONTH one of our committee, Peter Carr attended a lighting seminar over a weekend held at the Dolphin Theatre, where a leading lighting expert gave the group practical experience in lighting a show. The results of this informative weekend were evident in their next production, ‘The Winslow Boy’. Peter felt the seminar to be well worthwhile and a distinct benefit to our society.

MARION NELLER has been busy with costuming North Shore Opera’s October production, ‘Suessical The Musical’. Marion was responsible for ensuring the numerous newly designed costumes were completed and fitted by dress rehearsal – a huge undertaking.

BRUCE WESTON is overgrowing his hair after enduring a ginger wig in his last show.

BILL CHESSUM continues to make good progress. He and Annette were able to attend the October meeting. It was great to be able welcome Bill back.

MARY & TERRY BOYD are back from their trip to Australia to visit the newest member of their family, a fourth grandchild.

NEIL & KATHY LOBB were on the committee since its inception in 1978. While overseas, they were actively involved with a theatre group in Port Moresby where Neil starred as Detective Sergeant Porterhouse in ‘Run for your Wife’ by Ray Coney. In London, they were spoilt for choice, supporting their local Greenwich Theatre and also having the opportunity to enjoy some of the Westend shows.
